Did you know that Campbell River is Vancouver Island's undiscovered outdoor recreation paradise?
Although our city's location provides us with instant access to the great outdoors, many people don't realize that the Campbell River area has an incredible variety of trails and terrain to explore and enjoy. The following are just a few of the ways you can create an exciting and memorable day in Campbell River's backyard:
Mountain Biking in the Snowden Demonstration Forest
Old logging roads and closed railway paths make the Snowden Demonstration Forest easily accessible by anybody! Although it is open to all kinds of recreational enthusiasts, the Snowden area offers some of Campbell River's best cross country mountain biking.
Whether your brand new to the bicycle or an avid cyclist, you will find trails here that excite and entertain you! Come see Dan at Outdoor Addictions for more information
Exploring the Central Island by Bicycle

One of Campbell River's favourite road cycling routes follows the Inland Island Highway south to the Hamm Road exit and then follows the Old Island Highway back into town. A relatively flat and delightful 45 kilometer route offers an easy to follow loop for cyclists of all abilities. As on any road ride, make sure you carry a flat repair kit!
Snowshoeing the Forbidden Plateau
Back in the day, before the term 'climate change' existed, there was a magical little ski resort south of Campbell River called the Forbidden Plateau. Although the ski resort has been closed for many years, many of the old trails and runs still exist today with easy access from Forbidden Plateau road. This area also has fantastic bike riding and hiking in the summer, but when all of your favourite summer trails are covered in snow, why not grab a pair of snowshoes and go explore!
Sea Kayaking the Discovery Islands
Sea Kayaking is for everyone. And Vancouver Island is most certainly a sea kayakers paradise. With a portrait backdrop of the stunning coastal mountains, meandering coastlines, and the rich marine and intertidal life, Campbell River and the Discovery Islands offer the paddler plenty of variety. Ideally situated, Campbell River is also the gateway to paddling destinations such as the Sayward Lakes Chain, Desolation Sound, the central West Coast, and the Orca rich waters of Johstone Strait on the North Island. Make Outdoor Addictions one of your stops en route to your paddling destination and we will be happy to share our knowledge with you. Kayaks and accessories coming soon!
